It's not at all surprising, of course, but it still gets me every time? Like Pacific Rim comes out, has an Asian woman lead, and there are more random slash fics than there are het or gen fics about her. Star Trek: Discovery has a decent number of fics about the black woman lead, but definitely not as many as there would be if she were a white guy. The new Star Wars films? Somehow a random white slash ship between a villain and a very minor character is bigger than any of the ships with the woman or men of color leads.
And then fandom is like, "Oh, they're too perfect to be shipped!" Just like, put them on a pedestal and get rid of any self-examination you might have to do otherwise, I guess.
